Eye Care Galore! - From Kiehl's to L'oreal to Decleor to Melvita to Clinique to Dior and Kiehl's again.

Now how many of you have fallen for empty promises of expensive eye products? And how many of you have been searching for the right eye cream but fall short of hope as you've spent so much on one product and you have to finish it because you have spent so much for it?

I, for one, has always been searching for the right eye product. I found the best one in Estee Lauder's Uncircle and Unline but they both got discontinued probably more than a decade ago. They both actually work! From then on, my experience with eye creams have always failed me. A lot of them probably moisturise/hydrate the area but does not treat. Hence, you only get to feel moist but doesn't do their job to eliminate fine lines or reduce dark circles, whichever they are supposed to do. So, this is a post on those products I still own and I will let you know which one feels like I have finally (after years of searching) hit the jackpot!

eye creams
L-R: Kiehl's Line-Reducing Eye-Brightening Concentrate; L'oreal White Perfect; Dior Hydra Life Youth Essential Hydrating Eye Cream; Decleor Hydra Floral; Melvita Eye Contour Gel; Clinique All About Eyes and Kiehl's Abyssine Eye Cream.

I shall arrange them from my least favourite to my ultimate favourite. Therefore, if you want to know which one I think is good and you don't have much time to read this entire post, just scroll down towards the end of the page ;)

clinique
1. Clinique All About Eyes
Seriously, I cannot comprehend how this product could win awards for best eye care time and again. I like its packaging (I have those in the jar and tube from free gifts I'd get after my Clinique purchases) and I like the colour/texture of the cream when my fingers touch it. But that's it. As far as I can remember, since I tried it back when I was in uni around 1996 and even when I try it again now, this never seem to work on my eye area. Back then, it would give me oil seeds and it does that too now. So really, I'd like to hear from you sincere souls, whomever who swears by this eye cream because it works. It doesn't seem to reduce my under-eye circles and definitely does not depuff the area.

I love many of Clinique's products but I just cannot comprehend this little thing's existence for so long. So please enlighten me.

kiehls
2. Kiehl's Line-Reducing Eye-Brightening Concentrate
When I went to the Kiehl's store, I probably got a sales assistant who was inexperienced and wanted to make a quick sale. Yes, I might have those concerns of fine lines, dark circles and puffiness but the SA could have at least cautioned me that this is truly an anti-aging formula. Like real anti-aging - where it is more suited for women late 40's and above. As it says there on the tube - Noticeably Decrease the Appearance of Crows Feet which I seriously do not have. Therefore, the SA should have not prescribed this to me.

The texture is very liquidy and you should not squeeze too much out or it will spill. Upon application, it warms up the area, giving me the impression that it is working in eliminating fine lines. However, I think this thing would work well with the more mature market because as I am not those, it gave me oil seeds the very next morning! Boo!... not to the eye product... but the sales assistant who recommended me to purchase it. Not cheap too. Probably one of Kiehl's more expensive eye products.

loreal
3. L'oreal White Perfect Micro-Vibration 3-in-1 Brightener
Ok, this thingamagic is probably cool. Literally cool. Because after you've applied the eye cream with your fingers, push the vibration switch for the cool metal part to "massage" your eye area.

I felt that it is too gimicky because the vibration is just too light that I didn't quite feel any massaging effect. In fact, at times, the vibration made my eyes feel ticklish. Not funny. It is even more unfunny when after just two times of use, the vibration switch falls off and the whole plastic case (in blue colour) breaks. I needed to put them back together and it was messy.

All in all, I think the eye cream on its own kinda hydrates the eye area quite well. But I didn't feel moisturised enough and I think my fine lines may have gone a little deeper after 3-4 days of day and night use... which means that it did not treat my eye area at all. Then again, it only promise to get rid of dark circles, spots and puffiness which after only 3 days of use, one can't possibly see visible results. My main issue is the fine lines that exists under my eyes and I need to treat them quick before it gets worse. So no, this product does not work for me and I didn't see any positive results the way I expected.

melvita
4. Melvita Eye Contour Gel
The people at Melvita told me that with organic products, results may only come after consistent usage for awhile. I am not sure how long is 'awhile' and I don't think I'd want to wait too long when it comes to my eye area. The eyes are after all, the window to one's soul. And I definitely do not want my soul to be looking oldish and worn. So no, I won't risk it.

The eye contour gel works in making the eye area feels refreshed and hydrated but after using it day and night for 3 days, my fine lines got deeper to an extent that bothered me so much - my makeup on the under-eye area cracked along those fine lines! Major alarms went off inside my head and I stopped depending on this product for my basic skincare ritual. Of course, I do use it for those weekly DIY eye care because I like the feeling it gives me when I use it together with the items for the DIY eye spa. But that's as far as it goes.

decleor
5. Decleor Hydra Floral Anti-Pollution "Flower dew" Moisturising Gel-Cream for eyes
When this product was recommended to me, I was at my wits end in search of the right product. At that time, I was using Stri-Vectin, a strong formulation that can irritate people who have a sensitive eye area.  It was ok for awhile until I got sensitive to it and this product helped calm down my eye area.

It is non-scented and I liked the texture of the gel-cream. I used it for a good 5-6 months until it is almost finished and then realised that I have started to develop fine lines. Thus, I thought the eye product may have stopped working as I needed something stronger.

dior hydra life
6. Dior Hydra Life Youth Essential Hydrating Eye Cream
As you can see, this tub has been scrubbed clean! I think this may be the only eye cream in a jar that I've ever managed to finish. It didn't exacerbate any problem I had with my eye area and since I didn't get any negative reaction to it, I decided to continue using it until I am unhappy with it. The unhappiness never came and it brought me joy not having to worry about searching for a better one.

Of course, when I was done with it, I went off in search for newer products because as I've said, it hydrated the eye area but that was it. I was still searching for the sparks that you'd get from using a really good deal... and I have faith that another Unline or Uncircle would come my way eventually :)

abyssine kiehls
7. Kiehl's Abyssine Eye Cream+
Now this beauty (and my current favourite!) was an accidental find - the sales assistant who was silly enough to prescribe me an eye product suitable for those more than a decade older than me also gave me samples of the Abyssine Eye Cream+ and a midnight eye cream for me to try at home. I actually liked the midnight formula but since it can only be used at night, I wanted to be a little more realistic and bought the actual size of the Abyssine Eye Cream+ that can be worn both day and night.

I'm intrigued with this product because though it is cream based, it does not give me oil seeds. And after a week of use, I could see that the edge of my fine lines is softer and almost gone! I do believe that if I were to pair this cream with the midnight formulation, it might help me eliminate these fine lines quicker but that would have to wait. At least this one works like a charm and I am extremely happy to see that my fine lines are finally treated. So yes, this one's a definite hit with me and if you are still looking for that right eye product, why don't you visit a Kiehl's outlet and ask for a sample.

So, what do you think? Do you agree with me when I said that many eye products out there do not deliver their promise? Are you a fan of any of the products featured here?

Oh, this is a very useful post! I personally haven't use any of those you wrote about except the Kiehl's Abyssine, and yes, I swear by that too! But it's so expensive, and I have since found a bit of consolation in an organic brand - Esmeria Eye Serum.

hi jyoan,
glad this post helped you in any way. yes, eye products can be really expensive but sadly most of them don't seem to be worth the money spent.

so esmeria is good? ok, i should try that one as well. thanks for the tip!
