Last weekend, we decided to check out a new mall, Sunway Giza, located at Sunway Damansara. I've been to the area several times before when it was still under construction and since we've heard that it has now open, we thought it would be a good idea to check it out.
As it was just open, parking was still FOC and getting a parking space was a breeze. First impression - the place is so spacious with a unique layout. The open space area is so spacious and although it was a hot hot day, the area was pretty airy with the presence of gigantic fans on their high ceiling.
Further inside, there's a door into the mall area and my eyes instantly caught on two outlets - Baskin Robbins (hehe...) and Village Grocer (I can seriously get lost in this place I call, mommy's haven *grins*).
Now, I hardly frequent the Village Grocer at Bangsar Village because it is just so out of the way for me but I love the variation that's available. Now that there is one in Damansara, I foresee myself checking out this place more often. I think it is probably an even bigger outlet and its selection abundant.
I got jakun in this aisle. Just look at the middle shelf where they have a selection of fresh herbs all nicely packed with clear labels stating what they are best suited for. For instance, the pack with Thyme, Rosemary and Celery Leaf is best used on Red Meat Dishes while the pack with Lemon Balm, Peppermint and Mint is best suited for Drinks, Coulis & Desserts.
Heck, I even found a special pack of all the necessary fresh ingredients one needs to concoct a tom yam dish! Therefore, there's no need for all those tom yam stock cubes that are filled with preservatives and whatnot...
This is also my favourite section. I went crazy with the many types of salads to choose from!
I've always been intrigued with spices and what they are good for. Though I hardly buy much except for turmeric, curry powder, paprika, peppercorns and garlic & onion mix, I would always act like an excited little girl who's totally attracted by all these colourful playstuff with various textures and shapes.
I've seen 2L olive oil at Cold Storage BSC outlet, but this 5L caught my eye because it is relatively cheaper than buying 1L-2L bottles constantly. However, since I saw in one of the AFC programmes that say Extra Virgin Olive Oil (or as Rachael Ray would call it, EVOO) is not very suitable for cooking on high temperature, it would be useless for us to take one can of this. The other option was labelled as Olive Pomace Oil and we didn't know what it was so we refrained from getting it as well ;P hmmm... isn't there one that says, Pure Olive Oil?
My first impression of Sunway Giza, is that it probably is trying to capture an affluent crowd much like those we see in BSC and Bangsar Village, though it still lacks shopping-wise. Still, like any shopping malls, they probably thought having a variety of cafes and restaurants would be a sure-win factor since Malaysians are well known to be very adventurous in trying out new tastes and experiences when it comes to food. Thus, one can find a decent array of food outlets to whet one's appetite.

Little jj had a good time running around the spacious indoor open area, and we're truly thankful to someone's maid who tried all her might to untie a balloon from the balloon arch. All the balloons were tied together in several groups of balloons and it was so difficult to look for one that's not entangled with the others.
A shot taken on our drive back
All in all, it was a good experience. We enjoyed the visit even more seeing how much little jj enjoyed herself there (also allowing her to get herself tired so that she could go to bed earlier!) ;)
More info can be found on Sunway Giza's official website.
